[b]UNP’s Presidential elections manifesto[/b]
[b]Colombo, 29 September, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] The United National Party’s election manifesto of the Presidential Election was released on Tuesday. Ranil Wickremasinghe the Leader of the Opposition and the UNP presidential candidate officially released the 40 pages election manifesto at the party head office ‘Sri Kotha.’
The manifesto comprises two sections. The first section deals with three aspects- End to hunger, Employment and end to Separatism. The second section deals with twenty areas ranging from tsunami reconstruction to women’s rights and foreign affairs.
According to the Manifesto, Ranil Wickremesinghe has promised to keep the price of essential foods low and stable, reduce inflation and slash the cost of living in his first 12 months - aided by a provision of Sri Lankan Rupees 5 billion for food subsidies.
The former prime minister also promised to create 200,000 public and private sector jobs during his first year in power and 1 million more within five years, if he is elected the Nov. 17 polls.
Although Wickremesinghe has not placed efforts to resume peace talks at the forefront of his latest campaign, he said he would work for a consensus with other parties to solve the country's decades-old ethnic conflict.
